Baby's First Halloween!

I love Halloween!  Every year we carve a pumpkin, buy candy to hand out, and dress up the dogs.  When I work, I usually dress up too.  This year was Story's first, but being only 8 months old I wanted to be practical, so we purchased a ladybug onesie complete with antennas at Sears for 8 bucks.  Kindermusik happened to fall on Halloween which was perfect.  All the babies were dressed up, and Story was one of 3 ladybugs, although she was the only one who had on that particular costume.  There was also a dragon, teddy bear and a turkey.  It was like a mini Halloween party with all the babies dressed up.  I also went on a walk to purchase some goodies at the local bakery, where I got a mummy ginger bread for free (because Story was so cute in her costume).  Before trick or treaters came, my MIL made us some tastey fajitas and we snapped some pictures of us all with the dogs in their annual costumes.  Later on we had some laughs while Willow attempted to pull Mahjong's pig costume off.  Sadly, we only got about 12 kids or so at our door.  I'm guessing it's a combination of poor weather (although it wasn't that bad-a little wet, but warm), and less interest in trick or treating?  I get the feeling kids do other things these days like attend parties or indoor gatherings instead of walking door to door.  Anyway, it was a fun day!

8 Month Photoshoot

As you can tell, Story does not want to stay in one spot for very long.  She can sit up really good on her own, roll onto her tummy and crawl around.  She hasn't mastered the full upright crawl yet, but her caterpillar crawl is still pretty darn fast. She's still not eating too many solids.  I'm leaning towards baby-led weaning more, because every time I take the time to puree something she purses her lips together and pushes the spoon away.  She likes to feel the mushy food in her hands, but not in her mouth.  So right now she's experimenting with steamed carrot sticks, bread crust, melon, steamed broccoli, asparagus, oatmeal, and cooked apple.  Still weighing about 20 pounds, and is in the 95% percentile for height.  She loves her taggie toy, sippy cup, egg shaker, and pots from the kitchen.  V still reads to her before bed.  Her one tooth is growing in nicely and I don't see any more signs of other teeth yet.  We're still co-sleeping, breast feeding on demand, and use both her stroller and Boba carrier.  Because of her length, she's wearing clothes anywhere from 9 months to 18 months. We have baby proofed the house quite a bit more.  I'd considered the upstairs to be pretty safe.  Wires are covered, outlets covered, cupboard doors protected, and we tend to keep the bathroom door and basement door shut and locked.  I am trying to make our upstairs living room into a baby friendly space that encourages family time.  So, we moved our t.v downstairs so it is out of site.  We've set up an Ikea unit in the family room so her toys are easily accessible.  She's getting along with the cats and dogs really well, except for a small incident the other day.  While trying (a little to aggressively) to pet Bodhi, he struck out and scratched her face.  Luckily he missed her eye, and it showed us that we need to make sure we keep a better eye on the baby-cat relations.  Aside from that, they all get along, and currently Mahjong is sleeping at her feet.

10 Things That I Am Thinking About

So, I probably visit this space a few times a week with antsy feelings that I should post at least once a week.  But for some reason, all I seem to be able to manage is to post Story's monthly photo shoots!  Sure, it's not like I'm super busy with not working, although, I guess I kinda am in some way.  I'm also having trouble sorting out what I'd like to post.  There are things that I'm currently obsessing about, and I do have thoughts other than breastfeeding and changing a baby's diaper.  So, in this post I am just going to list everything that's on my mind lately.  Here's a spoiler... they might revolve around a baby.  lol

1.  Apple crisp (it's currently in the slow cooker!)
2.  Waldorf Schooling (I've been taking Story there for the Babes in Arms class):  both becoming an ECE instructor there, and having Story attend school there.
3.  Knitting.  I need to cast on and knit some wool balls for Story to play with!
4.  "Finding Hogwarts," (dvd on Harry Potter fandom that I received in the mail).  I NEED to watch it.
5.  Exercise-what does it look like PP?  I've been doing a bit on the exercise bike, but would like to have a regular routine.
6.  Christmas/birthday (for Story)-trying to figure out how to be minimalistic and purchase the most practical and natural toys for her.
7.  Purging... purging... purging... trying to get the house more organized.
8.  Baby proofing (watching Story suck on the cable splitter yesterday was not enjoyable).
 9.  Starting a collab Youtube channel starring some diverse moms.
10.  Kegels.  Dammit.  I never do enough of them.
